Order of the Spear

Life outside the melee

During the time of rebuilding The Wall, the barracks, and a fortified wall around Ralspur, in addition to mopping up any other goblinoid units that slipped in through the breech before the battle there was some downtime to discuss areas of interest with Illiana before heading out to escort her part way to the capitol city of Andryllon.

Also of late, Holly has taken a greater interest in learning to fight. She has expressed interest in assisting the Watch and has been granted a “leave of absence” if you will, from the Sea Nymph and her duties there. CSgt. Balthazar, in order to appease Derwin, has assigned her to cooking and cleaning for the Watch. After her work is done though, she is allowed time to practice and train with the rest of the guard. During this time she has been getting friendlier with the heroes of the 4th squad.

If you wish to discuss a topic with Illiana I will post a response to your queries. If you wish to curb the metagame knowledge in order to reveal it “in game” just send me an email.

Linfors, out of both an earnest desire to do what he sees as being right, and because Holly is cute, helps her in her training as much as possible. He also offers to loan her books and such – things his father had him read about warfare, history, and government – should she show any interest, and if she can read. If she can’t read, or read well, he offers to teach her. And he does not make passes at her, either! No smarmy innuendo; no sideways glances; no wacking off behind the woodshed. He’s actually trying to be a nice guy.

As it turns out, she cannot read very well at all. She knows the very basics, but has little opportunity to practice. She happily accepts both your offers and serves you extra portions of food and drink at meals…and some long looks as well.

I continue to ask Illiana about what she knows about the Gods, and any stories she may have. Also locations where more may be learned or holy sites which radiate a Divine aura.

Linfors is happy to help Holly learn how to read more proficiently, and is also willing to loan her any books he has (he brought a few from Wyglen – father always says “a well-read man is a well informed man”). He also takes whatever time he can to help her train with weapons and armor, and teaches her what he knows about maintaining equipment, as well.

Illiana regales the wide-eyed young heroes of the 4th squad with some tales of some sites beyond the wall. She visited a temple dedicated to the Overfather in a ruined city populated by ancient vampires. The temple was full of bones and statues. In the very center of a domed central chamber there was a huge living tree that had roots growing out of the ground and branches growing down into the ground. The tree seemed to look different every time she looked at it. When she gazed at the tree with the Faesight it had both a lighted glow that exuded fae as well as a blackness that seemed to pull at the fae.

To Cohen, Illiana explains that the diety she followed while living is named Wylde (pronounced wilda). She is the goddess of water and nature and is extremely beautiful. She has been known to have trysts with mortals and gods alike. You gather that she is probably chaotic good aligned. Illiana has met her and says she is much like a dryad.

Osweald takes the time to practice and train his Rangerly skills, looking to Illiana for advice about growing these skills. Without realizing it, he also seems like the little brother (you better not call me Gary!), helping Linfors train Holly and teaching how to say curse words in undercommon. He also spends time listening (probably more like eavesdropping) about the gods, to learn more and possibly expand his understanding. He also takes the time to show Jacen how to Stealth mo’ better, with style!
